When I name my characters, I just play around.

Chioda Oridia - My female ranger, my first char. She is awesome. Chioda is pretty much after the band Chiodos, and Oridia....dunno, it just sounded cool.

Gastow Greyhound - Warrior. Wanted to go for an aged kind of a look, sooo... his hair is grey.

Hannah Primon - Mesmer, wanted something elegant sounding, so I just came up with this.

Kabo Effen - Dark skinned Pre-Sear monk who I deleted recently. Played around a while and got this name.

Sireni Lokus - Wanted a mean-sounding but still kind-of-an-elegant name. Locust-->Lokus.

Aeolus was the king of winds, storms and tempests. Son of Hippotes.
Sol was the god of the sun. Sol son of Vulcanus (I think..)

And there you go. Aeolus Sol, king of wins, god of the sun. Dervish.

Eh, my characters have a glint of creativity:

Countess of Carnage - Tyrian Necromancer - she is my main character, and is meant to be a ruthless, bloodthirsty necro, with a mysterious and royal past.

Lin Shui Yao - Ritualist - roughly translated from Chinese: "Beautiful Sea of Jade", she's basically a Luxon gypsy-type character.

Nephthys Anuket - Paragon - Egyptian goddess who "represented divine assistance", providing protection, healing, and occasionally offering firey wrath toward the enemies of the Pharoah. Anuket is the name for the goddess of the Nile itself, and is often associated with arrows shooting forth, or the rushing flow of the river. Seems fitting for a Paragon, no?

Countess of Courage - Canthan Warrior - meant to be a kind of twin to Carnage, or rather one represents Death, the other, War.

Kano Ishikawa - Canthan Ranger - He is married to my wife's character, Takara Ishikawa. The names are clearly Japanese, but I have since forgotten their meaning (yes, there was meaning).

Priestess of Wisdom - Canthan Monk - Pretty self-explanatory, geniuenly a book-worm kinda monk, who dabbles in other magics (often either a /E or /Me).

Cronus Timereaper - Dervish - Essentially the embodiment of "Father Time". He's also kind of a rip-off of good ol Zasalamel from Soul Calibur (see my avatar). Not entirely creative with this one, but I so love Zasalamel.

Enlil Tistrya - Elonian Elementalist - Enlil is a Sumerian god of wind. Tistrya is a Persian god of rains and fertility. Both are male deities, but together sound feminine, so they are my female Ele. She will eventually be an air/water Ele (once she gets to level 20).

Niamah Al Basti - Elonian Mesmer - The name Niamah is just an exotic first name (I think Middle Eastern). Al Basti, however, is essentially the mythical name for a Turkish version of a Succubus, or female night-demon. I just loved the idea of a succubus-like Mesmer, draining the life out of all who oppose her!

Other than that, I mostly just make/choose names at random, some might suck, some might suck to a lesser extent.

All of my characters have "Deus" as their first name. Based on the Lastin for "god". It's a name that has a certain ring to it, and also shows that the character has a certain degree of power (which all characters do once you've tweaked their builds).

The last name I give them depends on the character's primary profession. My mesmer is "Deus Toutatis" - Toutatis being the Celtic god of warfare and the legends speak of him being able to counter any attack thrown against him, which mesmers do extremely well. My assassin takes the last name Shadowblade, as that's fairly descriptive of the skills and weaponry that assassins have access to.

All simple, but effective

others depend on the mood I'm in. Right now I'm trying to name my first monk, and I'm aiming for something poetic. It's hard to fit into 19 letters though, but I'll come up with something.

Named him "Dreaming of Regret".

Ozymandias Aylomen - Named after the king in Shelley's poem "Ozymandias of Egypt." What can I say, I like poetry, and the haughty sneer seemed to fit my ele's description. "Look upon my fireball, ye mobs, and despair."

Marion Aylomen - I had just watched the movie Requiem for a Dream and thought that Marion was a beautiful name. Ritualist.

Ahriman Dusan - Ahriman is a name for Angra Mainyu, an evil spirit in Zoroastrianism. Dusan means spirit/soul. I was attempting to make it mean "evil spirit" or whatever. Paragon.

Candace Cleary - my generic PvP character name. I dunno why; it just popped into my head one day and never left, so I had to use it...

I prefer the more obscure names. Considdering I could have probably gotten any name I wanted since I was there the minute they made it so you could register character names back in 04. I most likely could have gottne names Like Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Obi Wan Kenobi I just don't prefer those characters.
